Atlantis

Adventurers and researchers have been searching for Atlantis since ancient times. Plato was the first to report on the fate of the lost empire. Since then, attempts to locate it have mostly focused on the Mediterranean region. The Nazis, on the other hand, fervently believed in an ‚Atlantis-in-the-North‘ that harboured the roots of Germanic culture. Its inhabitants were supposedly a pure- bred and spiritually highly developed society with a connection to higher powers. SS chief Heinrich Himmler believed that Heligoland could be the remnant of the lost Aryan homeland. Despite several research expeditions to the island in the North Sea, it was not possible to find evidence of a great civilization, let alone the imagined Aryans.
