Jihad Wars

In 1979, under the code name ‚Operation Cyclone‘, the CIA began mobilizing, recruiting, training and arming young mujahideen men to fight against Soviet troops and expel the ‚infidels‘ from Afghanistan. This original fighting force and its ideology still form the basis for Sunni jihadist insurgency movements today, including ISIS. Conspiracy theorists are therefore convinced that the USA not only brought about the ‚war on terror‘ itself, but that it is still today orchestrating international terror in order to achieve geostrategic goals under a false flag.

However, most experts agree that the situation is way more complex, and attributing the entire jihadist movement to a single CIA operation oversimplifies the factors contributing to its emergence and evolution.
