FEMA-Camps

FEMA camps are facilities designed to function as temporary shelters during evacuations and provide humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters or national emergencies. However, some radical-right conspiracy theorists believe that law-abiding U.S. citizens will be rounded up and imprisoned in these camps by their oppressive federal government. These theorists fear that the government may create a pretext for declaring martial law, confin- ing patriotic dissidents to concentration camps. Supposedly, each of the 800 or more FEMA camps could detain tens of thousands of people, subjecting them to forced labour, torture, or systematic killings. Is history repeating itself in this way? No, there is no substantial evidence to support these outlandish claims.
