The first human landing on the moon in 1969 was a historic event witnessed by up to 600 million viewers through live television broadcasts. However, conspiracy theories suggesting that the moon landing was a fake quickly emerged. According to them, the US government and NASA realized they wouldn’t be technologically capable of winning the ‘space race’ against the Soviet Union. To overcome this, they allegedly hired a Hollywood studio to stage the moon landing. Stanley Kubrick was to do the job and produce special effects as great as those in his masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey. The problem, however, was that the film team allegedly made lots of mistakes during the production, such as the incorrect shadows cast by astronauts or the fluttering US flag, which seems implausible in the absence of an atmosphere.
